About him

Ali Al-Suhaimat (born in the city of Karak in 1937) is a Jordanian politician, engineer and former minister who held the position of Mayor of Amman (1989-1991) and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport (1991-1993) and was a member of the 26th Senate.

Jordan witnessed a major event when he assumed the position of Mayor of Amman, and this event affected the structure of the city at the time, surprisingly and significantly, as the first Gulf War invaded the region in 1991, and led to the return of Jordanian workers from Kuwait and some Gulf countries, which put great pressure on the infrastructure of the Greater Amman that accompanied it. Expansion of construction, as about 127,434 of them resided in Amman, forcing Al-Suhaymat to cancel the comprehensive development plan that was supposed to be implemented at the time, and to deal with the emerging pressures by providing services and expanding the infrastructure.
